Home Remedies for Clearer Skin

We all want the kind of skin where blemishes are non-existent. I want that picture perfect skin that is healthy and flawless. I would love for it to be where we don’t have to spend hundreds on skin care products and that our skin naturally glows healthy.  But in the real world, we have to work to keep our skin looking clear and beautiful.  Our lifestyle habits are the perplexing problems of our skin’s health.  Stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, pollution, damage from the sun, smoking, and alcohol are just some factors that affect the quality and texture of our skin. Since it’s not sociably healthy to live indoors for the rest of our lives, I have done some research to see if there are any possibilities of using something natural on my sensitive skin to counteract some of these predictors.

I have spend lots of money on skin care products only to be disappointed because they either did not work or made my skin situation worse.  So I decided that maybe I should try some home remedies that are all natural and chemical free. These remedies are simple and easy.  And most importantly, you probably already have these ingredients lying around. I tried them all and in a few days of trying them, I could see a difference. In some of these remedies, I used gram flour, or besan, which is made from ground chickpeas. The flour is rich in carbohydrates, protein, it is gluten free, and also contains zinc and fiber. Gram flour is popular for treating skin issues like acne. You can find gram flour on Amazon for real cheap, like under $10.

Lemon

Lemon is probably the most used ingredient to help clear skin.  It has vitamin C, which helps reduce dark spots.  It does this by increasing the cell renewal process and removes  dead cells. There are a few ways you can apply lemon juice. You can apply freshly squeezed lemon juice to your whole face and neck region.  Leaving it on for about 10 minutes then wash it off with lukewarm water.  If you have any cucumbers sliced, you can rub them on afterwards to soften and moisturize your skin. It is recommended to do once a day or even every other day.  Another way is to add raw honey to your lemon juice.  Mix about 1 tsp to every half lemon squeezed.  Leave this mixture on for 15-20 minutes every day or every other day then rinse it off.  You can also use lemon juice as an exfoliate.  Mix 2 tsp of lemon juice and 2 tsp of sugar.  Apply the mixture to your face, hands, and/or neck while gently scrubbing in a circular motion.  Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse.  I recommend to do this once a week to have glowing skin.

Honey

Honey is awesome to use as well, by itself, with milk, or lemon juice.  It has antibacterial properties that help keep infections away as well as moisturize your skin.  Make sure to pin back your hair, it gets very sticky when applying.  Just simply apply the raw honey like you are applying lotion.  The honey contains a water content that deeply moisturizes the skin.  This remedy can be done once a day.  You can also make a face mask out of honey and milk.  Mix 1 tsp of gram flour, 2 tsp of milk, and 1 tsp of honey.  Apply directly to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes.  Rinse with warm water.  I would recommend to do this weekly to have clear skin.

Turmeric

I have seen turmeric recommended a lot on expert sites because it can alleviate any allergic skin disorders, inflammatory or even infectious disorders that can leave your skin looking lifeless and dull.  Turmeric also works as an antiseptic and helps minimize scar and other dark marks.  You can make a paste, one of three ways, to help lighten those dark spots on your face or neck.  Mix 4 tsp of gram flour, 1 tsp of either lemon juice or pineapple juice and 1 tsp of yogurt with a pinch of turmeric to make the paste. Gently rub in a circular motion on your face and neck.  Leave it on until it dries then rinse with warm water.  I recommend to do this once a week.  I really could see a difference.  Be careful using turmeric though.  It can stain your mixing bowl, hands, even your face.  I would not recommend scrubbing it onto your face but more like gentle rubbing.  I tested a small part of my hand to see if it stained and it did a little bit. But once I washed it off with milk and it came right off.  Just be careful how much turmeric you use; like a pinch will be plenty.

Baking Soda

Just like some of the other remedies mention already, baking soda acts like a mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.  Baking soda is great at balancing the pH levels in the skin.  Baking soda makes for great pastes to use on your face.  Mix 1 tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of water or lemon juice to make your paste.  Gently exfoliate your skin then rinse with warm water and pat dry with towel.  I recommend to do this at least twice a week.

Take the challenge and give one of these remedies a try for 30 days.  I would love to hear what you guys think and how your experience was using these remedies.
